Nicolaus Copernicus

Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish church canon and astronomer who spent most of his working life at Frauenburg. treats the earth as a planet and places the sun near the center of the system, offering a full mathematical alternative to Ptolemy. He kept circular orbits. He presented the work partly as hypothesis and partly as a claim about the structure of the whole. Kepler, Galileo, and Newton took up the physical question he opened: how to describe the heavens once the earth moves.
